NG aims to smash glass ceiling with help from other women in property

NG Chartered Surveyors Director, Jude Weston, has joined an exclusive scheme aimed at bringing together women in the planning and built environment sector together to offer them help in their career.

Jude has been accepted as a mentee on the Women in Planning Mentoring Scheme, which is intended to partner up mentors and mentees and bring together individuals who are seeking support and guidance on their career development within the planning and the built environment sector.

The move is the latest in a long line of initiatives from NG aimed at encouraging its staff to enhance their personal development in the workplace.

Jude said: “I have joined this scheme as a mentee, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity of obtaining guidance and support from a more experienced professional outside of my organisation, who will assist with my own career growth.

“The Women in Planning quote on their website which I like is: ‘The glass ceiling will go away when women help other women break through that ceiling’ – Indra Nooyi.

It’s exciting to be able to strengthen my personal development and tap into the knowledge of a more experienced female Surveyor in a different sector of the industry.”

NG’s Charlotte Steggles says that just because she now has RICS accreditation to become a Chartered Surveyor, every day is still a school day.

She added: “Since passing this, my learning hasn’t stopped, it has just changed direction, for now I have put the ‘books’ down and I am trying to understand the business functions at NG and how these work and look at the day-to-day processes and how these can be improved.”

Another rising star of East Midlands surveying is NG’s Alicia Lewis, who joined the company in June as a trainee. Alicia hopes to follow in the footsteps of NG surveyor Charlotte Steggles who recently received her APC accreditation from industry body RICS and was promoted to Associate Director.

Alicia has recently started studying towards her APC qualification at Nottingham Trent University.

She said: “The course is going to broaden my understanding on the technicalities of the different aspects of the day job that I might not come across on a day-to-day basis.

“This will be the backbone I need to fully recognize and expand my knowledge on the methods of the industry.

This combined with my daily experience, I hope to become successfully chartered and as a young female, I’m looking forward to smashing the industry with my presence!”
